Cos’è che luccica

di tanto in tanto là

come lucciole

la notte di San Giovanni

quando si giocava

tutti assieme a "guardie e ladri"...

e ci si nascondeva

dietro i mucchi di fieno

nel grano ancora verde

nell'erba ancora da tagliare

Cos'è che luccica là?

È solo il filo sottile

di una grossa ragnatela.

E più le ragnatele sono grandi

più il tempo è vecchio

from time to time over there

like fireflies

on Saint John's night

when we used to play

all together at "cops and robbers"...

and we would hide

behind the haystacks

in the still green wheat

in the grass yet to be cut

What is that glitters there?

Comme des lucioles 

La nuit de la Saint-Jean 

Quand on jouait 

Tous ensemble à "gendarmes et voleurs"... 

Et qu'on se cachait 

Derrière les meules de foin 

Dans le blé encore vert 

Dans l'herbe encore à couper

Qu'est-ce qui scintille là-bas ? 

C'est juste le fil ténu 

D'une grosse toile d'araignée. 

Et plus les toiles d'araignée sont grandes Plus le temps est vieux.
